Virtual Mentoring

Join us for a dynamic session of Group Mentoring ‎- where affiliates will be able to connect in groups with senior leaders across government and Private Industry in order to gain new perspectives on a wide range of leadership topics. Bring your most burning questions and connect with your colleagues!

How it works: This is a one-hour mentoring session. Your group will start off with your first mentor. Then, every thirty minutes,  your mentor will leave and a new mentor will join you. These mentors will share their‎ best practices and insights on an array of relevant topics for today's workplace.

Take notes, as this discussion will reveal years of experienced insight.

It can affect both their work and home life. We have four fantastic speakers who can provide tips to help with and/or recognize signs of mental illness.

Meet the Mentors

Ann-Marie O’Brien | Social Worker, Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre

Ann-Marie O'Brien is a social worker with a broad range of clinical, academic, and administrative experience. She is currently lead for Women's Mental Health at The Royal. She is a board member of the Ottawa Coalition to End Violence Against Women (OCTEVAW) which works to bring a gender-based violence (GBV) lens to aspects of everyday life where we can help prevent and address violence.

 Ann-Marie is also the chair of the research ethics board for The Royal’s Institute of Mental Health Research. 

She is passionate about reducing stigma by promoting recovery, trauma informed care and peer support.

 


Gillian Dawson | Director, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Data, Products and Strategy, Workforce Health and Safety / COVID-19 Task Force, Health Canada (HC)

Architect of solutions to complex problems. Transformer of policy, regulations, process and operations. Evangelist on using information and data for public good. Obsessed with meeting Canadians' expectations of government. Builder and creator with affinity for start-up opportunities. Brave promoter of mental health, wholehearted leadership and a more humane workplace. Change maker with focus on people, process and technology. Compelling communicator, storyteller and dot connector.

Gillian spent a decade in the health consulting sector, advising some of Canada's largest corporations to leverage their data and information to architect and execute strategic health solutions, including those focused on workplace mental health. She designed long-term health strategies; executed major, multi-stakeholder health programs; and led research and analytics projects within a national and international scope. Gillian’s public service career has focused on transforming how health information and data is used to improve health outcomes for Canadians. She has lead many transformation projects across policy, programs and operations. Most recently, Gillian is leading horizontal efforts to translate personal protective equipment (PPE) data into visual briefing products and strategy to inform the Government of Canada's response to Covid-19.

Gillian is the founding captain of the Run for Women’s largest team, Health Canada Helping Communities, to raise funds for women’s mental health programs through The Royal, the local mental health hospital and research institute. For her efforts in promoting mental health she has received two public service awards of excellence, as well as the Run for Women 2020 Champion for Change Award.

 


Allison Reed | Senior Workplace Wellness Advisor, Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC)

Allison started working for the federal government in 2008. While she has spent the majority of her career in corporate or program roles, mental illness awareness and mental health promotion has always been a personal interest and a passion. In 2016 she took on the role of Team Lead of the Mental Health Program at the Canada Border Services Agency and was able to turn a personal passion into a professional project. In her current role as Senior Workplace Wellness Advisor at the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) she and her team are working to implement the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety; and developing and implementing a mental health strategy which involves providing employees with information on support services, resources and tools to enhance resiliency, and training on mental health and mental illness. As someone who lives with mental illness, Allison's goal is to continue to open the dialogue in the workplace so that employees feel they can speak openly about mental health, in order to reduce stigma and increase awareness and comfort concerning these topics. In fact, she started a weekly mental health blog to share her own story in the hopes of connecting with others and providing hope and support, especially during the pandemic. In addition to raising awareness, she hopes find creative solutions to create a psychologically healthy and safe workplace; as well as to measure, track and report on progress against these efforts.

 


Donna Karlin | Certified Executive Coach, Member of the TED Community

Donna Karlin, certified Executive Coach and Organizational Psychologist, has been called a thought-shifter, accelerator, dot-connector and reality-checker. She's an international speaker, lecturer, author and world-renowned leadership coach.
