Building Agile Teams to Build Resilient Products in the Federal Government

During this session Canadian Digital Service (CDS) will talk about their approach to building teams, how they hire and how they leverage the whole person when building multidisciplinary teams. Then they'll show how these teams have built successful, resilient and scalable products such as GCNotify and Covid Alert by walking you through the development process, lessons learned and outcomes.

Speakers:

Calvin RCalvin Rodoodo | Senior Developer, Canadian Digital Service (CDS)

Calvin is a principal developer with CDS, he’s currently working in CDS’ Internal Site Reliability Engineering team, and was previously a senior developer on the Covid Alert backend infrastructure.

He has worked at CDS since March 2020 and has a long history having spent 15 years at Employment and Social Development Canada’s Innovation and Information Technology Branch.


Max Neuvians | Head of Internal Site Reliability Engineering, Canadian Digital Service (CDS)

Max currently holds the position of Head of Internal Site Reliability Engineering at CDS, ensuring that all CDS products run in a secure, scalable, and resilient cloud environment. He has worked for CDS since March of 2018, joining the federal government after 13 years in the private sector. Max has contributed to many of CDS' products as a developer lead including the Veterans Affairs Benefits Finder, Notify, and CovidAlert.


Wissam Moussa | Head of Platform Infrastructure, Security and Technical Support, Canadian Digital Service (CDS)

Wissam currently holds the position of Head of Platform Infrastructure, Security and Technical Support (previously Head of Software Development) at CDS, ensuring that all CDS platform products run in a secure, scalable, and resilient cloud environment. He worked for CDS since September 2020, joining the federal government after 14 years in the private sector. Before that he was Director of Technology at Expedia Group, based in London, UK, leading a marketing technology team delivering scalable and personalized digital ads to world travellers.


Omar NasrOmar Nasr | Lead Developer of GC Forms, Canadian Digital Service (CDS)

Omar currently holds the position of Dev Lead of GC Forms. Omar's responsibilities include owning the technical direction of the product including development and implementation. He worked for CDS since June 2021, but has previously worked across 4 GoC departments. Before that he was Tech Lead at ESDC leading various products as part of the Benefits Delivery Modernization program.
