Meet the Mentor

Marie-Josée Dorion | Chief Information Officer and Assistant Deputy Minister, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada 

Marie-Josée Dorion has been the Assistant Deputy Minister, Digital Strategy, Services and Innovation (DSSI) and Chief Information Officer (CIO) since January 2024. As the CIO, she is responsible for overseeing the organization’s digital strategy and technology initiatives, ensuring alignment with business goals, and driving innovation and efficiency in IT operations. Previously, she held the position of interim Senior Assistant Deputy Minister of the Service Delivery Sector, (November and December 2023). Prior to this, she was the Director General of the Operations Planning and Performance Branch (OPPB) from 2021-2023. OPPB is a horizontal hub for operational performance and planning that supports IRCC operations through innovative data analytics and timely data-driven products and services to support decision-making. OPPB serves as the Service Delivery Sector’s strategic integrator on many fronts including IT release planning and HR at the sector level. 

Marie-Josée has been at IRCC for over 20 years, holding various roles across many sectors. This includes several key leadership roles such as acting DG of the Citizenship and Passport Programs Branch, Senior Director of the Solutions Task Team, and Director of Investigation and Exceptional Cases Division within the Case Management Branch. Her extensive IRCC experience also includes the development, implementation and successful delivery of transformational projects including Temporary Residents Biometrics Project, Advanced Analytics/automation, the Passport Program Modernization Initiative, and the first version of the Global Case Management System (GCMS) that was rolled out overseas.  

Marie-Josée began her career as a Foreign Service Officer stationed in Paris, France and holds a PhD in Historical Economics from the University of Quebec in Trois-Rivières.
