Kathy Macdonald | Fraud Prevention and Cyber Security Expert
Kathy Macdonald is a retired police officer turned global cybercrime prevention advocate. Her keynote presentations share firsthand experiences that unveil the complexities of cybercrime, and her passion and expertise in cyber security make her a powerhouse in the field. Kathy enlightens audiences with important information about the risk of social engineering, online fraud, sexual exploitation and coercion, and emerging security threats involving the Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Born and raised in Alberta, Kathy Macdonald is a member of the Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. She has been honoured with the Member of the Order of Merit of the Police Forces, a national acclaim recognizing her commitment to community service and global advocacy for cyber security. Kathy has also been named a Top 20 Women in Cyber Security by IT World Canada.

Po Tea-Duncan is the Chief Information Security Officer of the Government of Canada within Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat (TBS)’s Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO). Po has over 20 years of experience in the federal government. She currently leads the teams enabling the delivery of secure and reliable government services through the GC’s digital identity program, enterprise security architecture, security strategy and policy development, and GC Cyber Security Event Management. In 2020, she was named as one of the Top Women in Cyber Security in Canada. In 2022, she was featured in The Female Quotient and Deloitte's 25 Women in Cyber campaign. Po was also recognized as an 2024 Women in Defence & Security (WiDS) Emerging Leader. Prior to joining TBS, Po served in a variety of roles at Global Affairs Canada in the areas of systems security engineering, architecture, and incident management.

Erin Fox, Director, Threat Assessment Reporting and Planning (TARP), Canadian Centre for Cyber Security
Erin Fox is the Director for Cyber Threat Assessment, Reporting, and Planning (TARP) at the Canadian Centre for Cyber Security, a part of the Communications Security Establishment (CSE). She joined CSE as a research analyst in 2003 and since has played leadership roles in counter-terrorism, 24/7 operations, and emerging cyber threats. Erin is also CSE’s Executive Champion for the 2SLGBTQIA+ Pride Network.
Shawn M., Director, Russia Mission Centre, Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS)
Shawn M. is a career intelligence officer with more than 25 years of experience with the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS). He has served in many roles both domestically and abroad and was, prior to September 2024, the Director General of the Service’s Cyber Operations Division. There he was fortunate enough to work with a dedicated and talented multi-disciplinary team investigating threats to the security of Canada posed by hostile cyber actors. A firm believer in a “Team Canada“ approach, Shawn wants to see every agency and individual across government, and society, bring their respective mandates, knowledge, and skills together to safeguard our country. Shawn holds an undergraduate degree in Soviet Studies from Carleton University in Ottawa and a master’s degree in military and strategic studies from the University of Calgary.
Darrell Schroer, Deputy Chief, Enterprise Technologies and Solutions, Communications Security Establishment (Moderator)
Darrell Schroer is Deputy Chief, Enterprise Technologies and Solutions (ETS) at the Communications Security Establishment (CSE), appointed February 2023. In this role, Darrell oversees the branch’s delivery of secure infrastructure, systems, and services to support CSE’s multi-classification workforce as well as national service provider for Top Secret services in Canada. Darrell leads CSE’s many digital transformation initiatives including Zero Trust architecture, classified IT convergence across high security organizations and the implementation of Top Secret cloud capabilities. Darrell also oversees CSE’s Research Office and the CSE 24/7 emergency operations centre. Darrell is a strong advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion and is the executive champion of CSE’s sponsorship program that provides developmental opportunities to Indigenous, Black and other racialized communities.
Professional Experience: Darrell joined CSE in 2015 as Director, Information Management before assuming the role of Director General, Enterprise Solutions and Services where he oversaw the CSE’s cloud migration strategy, ERP portfolio modernization and the rapid expansion of services to support CSE’s evolution to a multi-classification environment. Prior to joining CSE, Darrell worked primarily in a project management capacity leading large-scale business and system consolidation efforts. He held various management and senior leadership roles at the Public Health Agency of Canada and Health Canada and spent 15 years at Nortel Networks prior to joining the public service in 2001.
Education: Darrell graduated from Algonquin College with a Diploma of Technology with a Specialization in Photogrammetry and he holds a Masters Certificate in Project Management.
